GETTING MARRIED IN Charleston actually is pretty simple, but there are a few things you need to know. There is a 24-hour waiting period, so be sure to plan in advance. If you want to get married on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you will need to apply for your marriage license no later than Thursday.
Both parties need to appear in person at the office of the probate judge, located in the Judicial Building at 100 Broad St. You’ll be asked to fill out a form with some basic information and pay a fee of $70, in cash only. There is no residency requirement and no blood test is needed.
If you are over the age of 18, you will not need parental consent, but you must have proper identification, such as a valid driver’s license, an original or certified copy of your birth certificate, a military ID or a passport. If you are divorced, it is a good idea to bring a copy of your divorce papers.
A South Carolina marriage license is valid anywhere in the state, and it never expires.
